Personalized gifts with their cat’s face
By the Photoshoot Pets team · Updated November 1, 2026
Every cat person has the photo. It took forty tries, three treats and a crinkly bag, and for one second the cat actually looked at the lens. Personalized cat gifts are how that second gets a little more respect. We put their cat’s face on a mug, a tee or a wall portrait, with the cat’s name, so it’s obviously theirs and not some random tabby from a gift shop.
Cat-themed stuff is everywhere. A mug with their cat on it is a different thing entirely.

A few cats who made the cut

How it works
- Upload your best cat photo. We cut out the background.
- Choose Color, Black & white or Sketch. Want it polished? Tap ✨ Studio Enhance™ for a studio-quality portrait. Keep their look, or try the smile option and see if your cat can pull it off.
- Type in the cat’s name.
- Check the preview on the mug, tee or portrait, and order.
Getting the photo (good luck)
Cats know when a phone is pointed at them. That’s just science. A few things help, though. Sit by a window in the afternoon, when the light is soft and the cat is already half asleep in the sunbeam. Turn the flash off, since it gives cats glowing alien eyes and they’ll leave the room out of spite.
Use burst mode for kittens. They move like popcorn, and out of thirty frames you’ll get one where the face is sharp. For older cats, wait for the slow blink or the loaf position. Both read as calm and a little smug, which is exactly the energy you want on a mug.
If you’re buying for someone else, you’ll probably need to borrow a photo. Scroll their social posts and find a shot where the cat is facing the camera, then save it at full size. Screenshots work if they’re sharp. Our preview shows you how it looks before you pay, so you can try a couple and pick the best.
Cat gift ideas that actually land
For the brand-new kitten owner
Kittens double in size before anyone’s ready. A mug from the tiny stage is the gift they’ll still reach for when that kitten is a twelve-pound sofa occupant.
For the work-from-home cat person
Their cat already sits on the keyboard during every call. Might as well have it on the coffee mug too, where it can’t close any tabs.
For the neighbor who feeds your cat
They fed your cat for a week, put up with the 5 a.m. yowling and sent you photo updates. A mug with your cat on it is a thank-you that doesn’t feel like a gas station gift card.
For the cat who thinks they’re royalty
Some cats deserve an oil painting. A 12x16 wall portrait in Sketch or Black & white comes close, and the cat will walk past it like it’s nothing. That’s how you know it’s a good likeness.
For the friend who swears she’s “not a cat person”
She said that right up until the stray on her porch started sleeping on her pillow. Now she sends you twelve photos a day. A mug with that former stray on it is a gentle way of saying you noticed, and you aren’t going to let her forget it.
What it costs
A mug is $29 USD. A Bella+Canvas tee is $32 and a 12x16 wall portrait is $34. Bundles knock off up to $14 if you want more than one. Shipping is free on all US orders. We make each order in 2–5 business days, then it’s 2–5 business days in the mail.
Quick answers
- My cat won’t look at the camera. Will a side angle work?
- A three-quarter view is fine as long as the face is clear and in focus. Try a treat held right above the lens, or catch them mid-stare at a bird.
- Does it work for black cats?
- Yes. Pick a photo in good light so their eyes and face shape show. Dark rooms make black cats look like a cat-shaped shadow on any product.
- Can I put the cat’s name and something else?
- There’s one text field. A name plus something short, like “Mochi · Est. 2024”, fits fine. There’s no separate message line.
- Can I print the cat on both sides of the mug?
- Yes, mugs can be printed on both sides, so the cat is visible whichever hand they drink with.
